After experimenting with some cardboard tubes of differing sizes, Gaia was delighted to find an extra-long wrapping paper tube. She made noises and we talked to each other through the tubes. Gaia commented on how the sound of her voice changed.
”“It goes ooh eh, big voice (making her voice deep and loud)””
It makes your voice big?
”“It makes it louder.””
Why?
Following this, Gaia came across a bamboo instrument in a park, the cylindrical bamboo hung in various lengths. Gaia carried on her experiment of talking through the tubes. She noticed a difference in the sound of her voice and discovered that one of the tubes was closed at one end.

”“It makes it louder because it’s more hollow, because it’s a cylinder. It makes your voice shoot out of the end like a blast!”
